The Neuilly-sur-Seine Municipal Youth Council Elections Have Been Completed Using The Tezos-based Voting Application Electis

Municipal Youth Council Election Has Been Completed

Neuilly-sur-Seine is a commune in the department of Hauts-de-Seine in France, located in the inner suburbs of Paris.

Neuilly-sur-Seine was recently named the most expensive place to buy a property in France, possibly in part due to its location just one mile outside the La Défense business district, which is the largest economical center in Europe.

Last year,  the municipality of Neuilly-sur-Seine announced that they would be using the Tezos-based voting application Electis for several purposes.

For this purpose, Electis created “NeuillyVote”.

Scaling from small use cases upwards to bigger democratic processes, more serious use cases start to come on the horizon.

Starting with screenings of films for the “Le Village” cinema and the acquisitions of books for municipal media libraries, Electis has now officially been used for a democratic process for the French authorities:

The Municipal Youth Council Elections in the French city Neuilly-sur-Seine have recently been completed by use of the Tezos blockchain through Electis.

“For a week, nearly 1,500 college students elected their representatives on the voting platform.

Stored securely and transparently on the Tezos blockchain, results are verifiable by each voter while remaining confidential through the use of homomorphic encryption algorithms. secure, anonymous and easy to use, this approach to voting is a way of opening the way to the future of democratic life.”

Lucas Véran, Deputy Mayor added:

“This first election of a CMJ from a blockchain solution was appropriated by the college students of the City and no irregularity has been observed on the platform”

Currently, another vote is in progress on NeuillyVote where citizens can do another voting round for new books in the City’s media library.

To some, this might seem insignificant, but Electis are building their case to become the main secure digital democratic voting solution on several fronts. Using such an application for national elections is not decided on overnight.

Electis continues to build a reputable track record. Electis is used by three organizations of the United Nations.

The Association of Cryptocurrency Enterprises and Start-ups, Singapore (ACCESS) used Electis to elect their new board members at the 2022 Annual General Meeting.

A trial is being held in Switzerland, where Electis is used to introduce the Swiss voting system to new Swiss residents. The Electis application has also been successfully tested by 80 leading global universities.

The adoption of Electis.app by students from more than 80 leading global universities confirms that the Electis.app e-voting solution meets the requirements of trust and usability for local governments, organizations, and nonprofits across the globe.

Electis.app is powered by the Tezos blockchain and open-source SDK ElectionGuard.

The results of e-voting elections on the Electis.app are, for the first time, immutably recorded through a smart-contract on the Tezos blockchain, a decentralized, public blockchain that evolves by upgrading itself through on-chain governance, adding a further level of transparency and security to e-voting systems.
