Tezos Developer Event Attracts Record Numbers Ahead of WASM and EVM Rollup Upgrades, Announces 1,000,000 tps Goal

The Tezos developer event TezDev, on the side of EthCC, kicked off with over 400 registrants for the three days of talks, networking, and live-coding events.

The developer event takes place on the heels of new plans from Tezos core developers introducing WASM and EVM optimistic rollups. Furthermore, Tezos core developers announced plans to hit 1,000,000 transactions per second (tps) by mid-2023.

During a talk titled “Scaling Tezos with Rollups” by software engineers Yann Regis-Gianas, Nomadic Labs, and Hans Hoglund, TriliTech, it was announced that Tezos will be able to scale to 1,000,000 tps with optimistic rollups and a ‘data availability layer’ planned for upcoming protocol upgrades.

Protocol upgrades on Tezos are voted on Tezos token holders.

Tezos early architect and co-founder Arthur Breitman also mentioned the new tps mark during his keynote titled “Why Build on Tezos?”.

Also this past week, the Tether stablecoin USDT launched on Tezos, and the Bittrex exchange listed the first Tezos ecosystem tokens.
