NFT Platform Arago: A Curated Photography Platform In Which NFTs Also Include Image Licensing

Arago is built on Tezos and is aiming to go live soon. Arago is a digital photography studio/ gallery as opposed to a mass marketplace or instagram-like platform.

“Arago is the world’s first studio fully dedicated to the distribution and promotion of tokenized art photography.“

The platform is curated and only selected photographers will publish their photographs on the platform. Additionally, all NFTs will have a maximum of 8 editions from which 1 NFT will go to the photographer.

The photographer signs a contract that prohibits minting more editions of the photograph, nor the production and sale of a similar photo.

Selling an NFT on the platform also includes a transfer of rights to the photography that the NFT holds. This isn’t just limited to printing rights, but also publishing rights.

“Each token includes a license that allows the collector to display or stream the photo on a certain number of digital screens or virtual spaces.

These representation rights will allow the reproduction of the photo on multiple media in a non-commercial sense. Arago will facilitate the technical connection and digital distribution of collected photos through an API (apps, frame art TV, metaverse, virtual galleries….).“

Each token also includes the right for a single physical print.

“The ownership of the NFT has the right to a single authenticated print of the photo. This print is sold as an additional service (technical fees are added on top of the NFT price), and the photographer will control the perfect quality of the printing process (size, settings, paper, etc.).

This print is certified by a unique code attached to the token. In the event of the resale of the token, the unique printed code will be revoked hence rendering the print as valueless – in reality nothing more than a poster.

A second printing is then possible and with the new code, now becomes the original with the associated value. The technical costs of this will be borne by the buyer.”

 Drops

The Arago team actively pursues clients and has already selected the first series of drops for the end of 2021. They aim to drop one exhibition per week and eventually scale up to two drops per day with about 500 exhibitions per year. 

The selection of photographers will go through three channels:

  1. A direct selection by Arago via a global and ongoing awareness

  2. Curators who will be commissioned to set up exhibitions

  3. “Traditional” galleries who will develop a new distribution channel for artists
