New Jack City: How DNS and Kane Mayfield Reshaped Music & Art NFTs on Tezos

In an important step for the digital art world, artist Kane Mayfield has launched his latest AI music video as an NFT drop on DNS.xyz.

The drop, showcasing Mayfield’s unique artistry, includes a four-minute AI art music video and a variety of unlockable rewards for collectors.

Titled ‘New Jack City’, the NFT drop is an artistic exposition of the late 80s as seen through the eyes of a latchkey kid.

The piece, representing an amalgamation of 1.5 million images created through stable diffusion, has been an instant hit. Enhanced with rich instrumentation and reflective lyrics, the artwork gained traction within the community without the need for heavy marketing.A significant achievement was the ‘New Jack City’ becoming Mayfield’s most collected piece with 504 copies and 107 collectors.

Several collectors were new to Tezos and came from Bitcoin or Ethereum for this drop. Mayfield expressed his gratitude to the community and his supporters, highlighting the power of organic growth and community engagement in the crypto space. In fact, Kane Mayfield identified that he made as much money from this drop as if he had gotten 1.5M plays on Spotify.

“I sold more in 6 hours, than I got from 6 years of streaming.”

Mayfield and Shokunin (Founder at DNS) think the game aspects of the drop really resonated with the community. The drop included a leaderboard, giving unlockable mp3 and mp4s to collectors, as well as a PFP and alternate edition of the song to top collectors.

The #1 collector, who collected 119 editions, will be included in the NFT, which will be dynamically updated for the occasion. The rewards will be distributed in the coming days.

The choice of the DNS.xyz platform for this drop wasn’t accidental. DNS chose to operate on the Tezos blockchain to develop a new kind of social rollup for its platform.

Sometimes referred to as ‘layer 3’ by Ethereum developers, this kind of rollup allows for the seamless execution of actions, such as likes, which are then rolled up into blockchain events.

The significance of this feature lies in its ability to enhance the speed of blockchain interactions, making it as fast as liking something on social media platforms. This ensures that the platform operates without the user having to wait for blocks or pay for gas, while maintaining decentralization.

In addition, DNS announced the introduction of ‘Smart Wallets’, which are designed to simplify the often daunting process of wallet creation.

Through account abstraction, Smart Wallets provide a user-friendly experience, allowing users to manage multiple wallets under their account.

This innovation goes beyond treating wallet addresses as identities and seeks to offer users more control over their financial and digital assets.

The Smart Wallets are programmed to execute multiple functions. For instance, they allow for the combination of several wallets under one smart contract, present users with a unique ID, and enable gas-free wallet actions with tickets and permits. What’s more, they can be created through social login, making them ideal for newcomers to the crypto world.

DNS noted the success of the first music drop, stating that it stood its ground against well-established Ethereum platforms from the get-go, despite limited coverage from major crypto media outlets or influencers.

The sale of over 500 editions signified the vibrancy of the Tezos music community, and showed the growing relevance of the Tezos platform as a hub for experimental and innovative crypto projects.

In conclusion, the successful launch of Kane Mayfield’s AI music video NFT drop on the DNS platform, built on Tezos, is a testament to the rapid evolution of the NFT market.

The innovative use of ‘Smart Wallets‘ and ‘social roll-up’ features promises an exciting future for artists, collectors, and crypto enthusiasts alike. It reaffirms the power of creativity, community, and technology in driving the new wave of digital art and crypto adoption.
