Fakewhale Presents RIP HEN: A Tezos-based Online Minting Event And Dedicated IRL Exhibition

#RIPHEN

From November 11th through November 16th, 2022, Fakewhale invites all artists and the community to mint and collect in memory of the early days of Hic et Nunc, to commemorate the roots, heritage, and legacy that it has left behind, and that still represents the community today.

The event is running in partnership with Valuart, 1of1, HERE & NOW, The Tickle & NFTBiker.

The IRL exhibition will be at the Valuart Gallery in Lugano-Paradiso.

November 11th, 2021 marked a historic day artists and collectors will not forget anytime soon. Official website shut down. Error messages. Hundreds of DMs and Tweets flooding in all with the same question: is Hic Et Nunc dead?Founded by Rafael Lima in March 2021, Hic Et Nunc (HEN) was/is an experimental open-source NFT platform that seeks to decentralize the crypto-art marketplace through community-based power, which gained recognition as one of the most popular, community-driven, and art-centric marketplaces of all time. But HEN’s shutdown did not mark its demise, but rather gave birth to a new era — In accordance with its decentralized nature, the platform has in fact since that day been handed over to the community and continues to function as a DAO to this day.

And it is precisely during this time that Fakewhale, an active collective of artists and collectors in the Tezos-scene since the early days, saw in this occasion an opportunity to pay tribute to the artists of the HEN scene, leading to the very first RIP HEN IRL exhibition curated by Jesse at the Valuart Gallery in Lugano Paradiso.

This inspired the creation of the Fakewhale Vault shortly after: a sales-free permanent collection that continues to testify to the importance of these times and highlight the talents of the digital art scene to this day, and that is laying the groundwork for a long-term vision that seeks to empower art through digital culture beyond the market. This year, on November 11th, RIP HEN makes a return at the Valuart Gallery to commemorate the early HEN days again but this time, extending itself also within the online realm:

From November 11th to November 16th, the whole community is invited to mint in memory of HEN and collect the pieces by using the hashtag #RIPHEN through NFTBiker’s Event page tool.

An initiative, presented by Fakewhale in partnership with Valuart1of1HERE & NOWThe Tickle and NFTBiker.

“The Tickle has been heavily invested in clean NFTs since the early days of Hic et Nunc. It was created in an attempt to highlight the wonderful array of global talent flourishing in this strange, new space.

This breadth of talent crossed all metrics of diversity – brought together by the punk ethos and low cost of entry to NFT technology that the combination of Hic et Nunc and Tezos provided.

So much has changed since then, and as the editor of the magazine, it’s been a wild ride documenting every moment of the unpredictable, rapidly evolving scene.

The death of Hic et Nunc was merely the start of something huge, chaotic and wonderful, so it’s fitting that we treat the anniversary of its demise with a joyful celebration of what it unleashed.”

“We are always eager to support projects that shed light on the spectacular community on Tezos.

Fakewhale shares our vision for supporting the community and showcase Tezos artworks beyond the virtual realm which is key to the understanding of digital art as part of the overall art world.

Pairing the virtual and physical worlds ultimately empowers artists and the overall reach of their works.

Hic et Nunc sowed the seeds for an art movement that continues to carry its legacy and brings together artists from all parts of the world.  1of1 was formed from a love of Tezos works.

An amazement of the quality of artists on the chain as it is a table built for all art lovers in this world to dine at and a commitment to showing the world the brilliance of unique works on Tezos, beyond the affordable editions and groundbreaking works for which it is rightly famed.”

“It has been almost a year since the demise of Hic et Nunc, and the Tezos community is still trying to figure out what happened. But one thing is certain: the sudden demise of Hic et Nunc was a unique event in the history of digital art, and we are here to celebrate it.”

Throughout the book, Yuki Ama recounts the most impactful moments of Hic et Nunc through an extensive curation of artworks that illustrate the emergence, demise, and final rebirth of a decentralized cultural movement rooted in a passionate community that continues to embody its values of inclusion, experimentation and diversity to this day.
