Collectible Card Game Matterlight Is A Smart, Quick, And Fun Strategic Game Built On Tezos

Matterlight

Matterlight is a Collectible Card Game that integrates Tezos-based NFTs and Tokens. After playing the demo game here I can honestly say that this is a very addictive and fun game.

It takes a few practice games to develop a strategy and to get a feel for the game in general, but then you’re almost certainly hooked.

This might sound complex at first, but you’ll get the hang of it real quick and one game takes only a few minutes.

There are several strategy layers to take into account when playing the game.

Your cards have attack points, defense points, special powers, and playing different cards can cost you a different amount of moves.

Then there is some randomness in the fact that you don’t know what cards you will be dealt during the remainder of the game, and you don’t know which cards your opponent has.

Goal of the game: bring down the number of lives of your opponent to zero.

You start out with four random cards in your deck. The first turn you are allowed to make 1 move. If you only have cards in your deck that cost you more than 1 move to play, you can’t make a move in your first turn. (Bad luck).

Players are also dealt 2 Fate Cards at the start of the match (this is not in the demo version); these fate cards add another layer of randomness. These fate cards can be played at any time throughout the battle and are hidden from the opponent.

During the second turn, you are allowed to make 2 moves. During the third turn, 3 moves, etc. There is one card that adds 1 extra move when you play it. This is an example of a special power that cards can possess.

Once you’ve managed to play a card from your deck, it will move to the line of active cards you have on the table. With your active cards, you can strike opponent cards and reduce their defensive points with the number of attack points that the card you play has.

If defense points are reduced to zero, the card is defeated and is eliminated from the game.

If your opponent has no more active cards on the table, you can use your active cards to strike the opponent’s “hero” and reduce his amount of lives with the amount of attack points your active card holds.

The special powers of the different cards add an extra layer of strategy to the game.

Free to play

Matterlight is free to play. There is a free-to-play deck of cards that players can use that will only be accessible in-game. (So you won’t own the cards, but you will be able to play.)

There are a total of 28 different Matterlight characters in the Genesis Launch, 8 of those characters will be in the free deck. The other 20 cards will be available in card packs that you can buy on objkt.com.

When you start the game, you will need to compose a deck of 30 cards. If you purchase the packs during the genesis sale, you can add more rare and more powerful cards to your deck.

The Genesis Edition of Matterlights will be distributed as follows:

Gif.Games and UNO tokens

Matterlight is brought to you by Gif.Games, the creator of the very successfull Tezotopia.

Tezotopia was Tezos’ first real-time strategy gaming platform and combines NFT gaming with yield farming economics. Read more about Tezotopia here.

Search for “Tezotopia” in our search bar for more articles on that topic.

Gif.Games introduced Unobtanium (UNO) tokens in Tezotopia and added another use case for this token in Matterlight. Unlocking extra mana (extra moves during your turn) is possible with UNO.

A maximum of 3 Mana can be unlocked with UNO at any given point throughout the game.

Tournaments, Control Points and revenue shares

Randomly generated tournament brackets for 4, 8, and 16 players to fill will be created throughout the day, the tournaments will require an entry fee of a random amount of UNO (between 0.2 and 2 UNO per game).

Once the tournament bracket is completely filled out, players will be locked in for the duration of the tournament.

With a winner-take-all element, the tournament champion will secure 90% of the UNO in the tournament pool, and the other 10% will go into a Revenue Bank.

Each victory in a tournament gives you Victory Points, you can trade 3 Victory Points for 1 Control point. Control Points can be staked on the map to the right to claim a percentage of the Revenue Bank.

Each square represents 1% of the Revenue Bank pool. Once staked, Control Points expire after 30 days.

The player with the most Control Points in a sector controls that 1% of the Revenue Bank. It’s a battle for control of the city of Metzopia, and your Matterlights the ones leading the front!
